Media Obfuscates Appointment Processes in Iraq, Misrepresenting them as “Elections”

[ U.S. officials claimed that elections in Iraq were not feasible because “there was no way to hold a nationwide census in time for a vote.” That, it turns out, was known by the U.S. to be false, according to the FAIR report below, which calls into question the “prevailing storyline about an administration committed to Iraqi democracy.” To add insult to injury, the U.S. media are obfuscating the ramifications of the U.S.’s “caucus” policy: Take, for instance, the word “caucus,” which is how the occupation authority characterizes its favored mechanism for selecting a sovereign government….
